About
The
Somali Educational Research and Development Centre (SERDEC) is a
non-governmental organization founded in 2010. Its mission is to support
educational advancement in Somalia through two primary initiatives: education
research and development. SERDEC has expertise in research, curriculum
development, and training across various educational levels, including primary,
secondary, and tertiary education. Additionally, SERDEC focuses on community
education to address illiteracy and empower individuals by providing
opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills, promote personal
development, and stimulate economic growth and employment.

SERDEC’s

opportunities. Additionally, SERDEC aims to advance educational development at
all levels in Somalia, promote educational research, and publish scholarly

Objectives
SERDEC
has established the following objectives:

provide foundational education programs that help young people and adults gain
literacy skills and reach sustainable proficiency levels.

offer vocational and life skills training that fosters and encourages learner
engagement, promotes motivation, and supports ongoing reflection and analysis
of relevant issues.

increase awareness of various community challenges and guide individuals
towards adopting healthier lifestyles.

Activities
and Services
SERDEC’s
education program provides the following activities and services:
ü Basic
Education Programs: The center offers literacy classes for individuals with
limited or no formal education, focusing on reading, writing, and numeracy
skills to help enhance their livelihoods.
ü Vocational
and Life Skills Training: This program equips individuals with practical skills
in various areas, including tailoring, carpentry, computer literacy, and
business management.
ü Community
Awareness Campaigns: SERDEC runs campaigns to raise awareness about key issues
impacting the community, such as health, hygiene, and social challenges.
ü Advocacy:
SERDEC promotes equitable access to education for all individuals, regardless
of gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background.
ü Curriculum
Development: SERDEC is involved in developing curricula to improve the courses
offered in schools, colleges, and universities by adhering to established
standards. Key aspects of this process include:

These programs include academic guidance, performance assessment, curriculum

and social support, with the aim of enhancing the quality of education and
achieving better outcomes for learners.

in Emergencies programs: The center participates in providing educational
services during crises such as armed conflicts or natural disasters.
